A new tablet is not exactly on the list of things I need, but it is on my list of things that would be nice to have. I've shifted most of my gaming over to tablets simply because it's easier and cheaper than worrying about consoles of PCs. I may not pick up on all the latest "gamer" games, but Lara Croft will forgive me for not picking up the latest Tomb Raider, I am sure.  Besides, certain incidents this year have left a bad taste in my mouth.  I'd rather not be around GamerGate or the people who suggested Rachel Bryk commit suicide. (I really wish the latter incident hadn't stuck in my memory.)  However, this is not relevant to the point. I was thinking about going out and getting a NextGen tablet on Sam's Club on Friday.  These aren't top of the line, but they do have a nice-sized screen for e-reader purposes, and they can play most Android games.   I was prepared to spend $80 on this.

I think didn't H.H. Gregg have a similar tablet for less money and then I go off to research it. I find out that they do.  I call the store from home and they tell me it's $20. After the some conversation, the retail associate apologizes and says that is the price they will be sold for today on Thanksgiving. Now, I've been in stores on Thanksgiving. I remember doing a demo at a Wal-Mart, thinking it was worth $21 an hour effectively and that it would be dead. I was wrong on that later point. As it turns out, they did have the item at the price I was expecting to pay.  I say I'm going out to buy it.

I begin to get lectured on how I should save money, even though this is less than I intended to spend on a similar item. (Plus, this item has an SD card so I can expand it's memory.) She even gets in a huff about how we are impoverished and the money could be spent on groceries.  At this point, I point out two things -- we still have a lot of the groceries purchases two weeks ago, and that it's *my* money.  She goes on about how she can avoid getting trampled and otherwise injured at these sales, and I counter with my objections to these sales in the first place.  I don't want to make retail workers work on Thanksgiving, and I don't think they should risk their life for slightly above minimum wage.  At some point she tries to counter with that the people working on Thanksgiving are all volunteers.

I only have one question after this, and it ends the argument.  I simply asked, "You never worked retail have you? You don't know some of the crap they pull."

Now, if I could just get to the point where I don't have to sell my plasma to get any income, that would be great.
