Something I've noticed...

Ever since my politics have swung a bit more to the left after seeing how people in my situation are treated, I seem to be getting interrupted a lot more by the roommate before I can finish the point. Oddly, this happened to me in my Everquest II guild when speaking with someone who believed Alex Jones offered real news.
And sadly, there are some good points in the Google employee's manifesto, but he tried to make it about diversity and sexism, when he had ideas that Google might have been willing to try if he hadn't made it an "us vs them issue." Sadly, now that he's put his paper out there on the Internet, he's destined to become a hero of MRAs and the alt-right when at first he merely had a more conservative position

Date: 2017-08-11 06:48 pm (UTC)Getting back to the point, the Google employee's manifesto starts out with some sexist and disproven points, then goes on to accuse Google of bias against conservatives and wonders through one or more unrelated points before getting to the point where they might be able to address the problems with the pay gap in tech. This assumes, of course, that the only reason for the paygap is his assumption that women are less likely to bargain for raises. (I'm paraphrasing *his* words. Please don't jump on me for this.)
He suggests pairing men and women together to improve software quality and promoting the pair as a team, or at least I think he does. Such a setup might work, but it'd cause numerous other problems.

Date: 2017-08-13 01:18 am (UTC)I say this because the U.S. has never had a woman president, and women are extremely underrepresented among CEOs in all industries around the world. And that's not to mention the dearth of women orchestra conductors, movie producers, and firefighters, police, and EMS personnel. etc., etc., etc.
I mean, It's not like Autistics dominate U.S. politics, international business, the classical music industry, Hollywood, nor municipal first responder departments.

Date: 2017-08-13 03:23 am (UTC)Yeah there are disproportionately more Autistics in certain fields. But sexism and the phenomenon of women and enbies being all but shut out of certain fields pervades *other* fields, as well, *not just Autistic dominated fields*.
