Got the Great White Beast Started Today...

The Great White Beast, aka my 1994 Chevy Astro, has sat in the backyard for most of the winter. I've decided not to drive it because it still has Pennsylvania plates that expired three years ago.  The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation finally sent me my title for the vehicle at the end of March.  Now I can get Indiana plates for it.  All I need to purchase them is more hours than I've been getting at work or some other source of income.

It still felt good to take a trip in my own vehicle to charge the battery up, but I'm not sure I can afford to keep it up. It's a shame.  I drove the car to Indiana three years ago.

What about keeping it around for a while, in case you get SSD?

I probably will not sell it any time soon. I did try to exchange it for something more fuel efficient when coming to Indiana, but this was impossible to do without the title for the vehicle.

You reminded me that I have to apply for SSI sometime this week. I have to work tomorrow, but I can do it Friday morning. I'll set a goal of doing it after my appointment with the therapist.

There is nothing like me facing a one-on-one setup with someone I don't know to set off my social anxiety. It's not even easy for me to do talk face-to-face with people I do know. If I fill out the paperwork, I'll have to accomplish this feat twice in the same day.

Oh well, the worst they can do at the social security office is turn me down, which they will probably do the first time anyway.

And is it just me or is this chronic illness thing getting to be a job by itself I have to go back to the podiatrist Monday to be fitted for orthotics.

I'm pretty sure he's wrong about the ankle problems, too. I'm not buying that it's from standing on concrete and the pain is amplified because of fibromyalgia. I don't think he realizes how few hours I actually get. I'm just hoping he's right.

Because of my fibro, standing on concrete without shoes that have some give/bounce in them — to mimic one of those rubber mats they sometimes have workers stand on at check-out stands — can get painful extremely fast.

They give us rubber mats to stand on. However, the company wants you to walk around and engage the customers, so you spend very little time on the mats. unless you're actively preparing food.

Oh, that's frustrating. :( (sad face) They ought to pay you extra to buy shoes that mimic the rubber mats, if they're going to have you doing that all day.

I think they may look the other way if I started ignoring that particular rule. They haven't said anything about leaning lately.
